Choreutis nemorana aka Fig-tree Skeletonizer moth


Found many of them in the Fig tree nearby my house. They make the leafs seem a bit rot, but maybe it's worth it. I've never seen an insect ''making demages'' in a diffrent tree as the Fig tree, so it was like a blessing showing that this moth can eat their leafs incluiding the white sap from the leafs produced by the tree.
The caterpillar makes a silk ceiling which protects it to potential predators. When it's done, it makes a silk cocoon, which pupates inside.
The imago usually hatch some days after, showing this amazing moth.
Wingspan about 16-20 mm


Encontrei muitas destas numa figueira perto de minha casa. Elas fazem parecer que as folhas estejam a apodrecer, mas talvez seja de valor o que fazem. Nunca vi um insecto a fazer ''estragos'' em árvores não tão susceptiveis a insectos, como a figueira, por isso foi mesmo bom encontrar esta borboleta que come as folhas, incluindo a seiva branca que as folhas deitam produzidas pela árvore.
A lagarta faz um tecto de seda que a protege para potenciais predadores. Quando completa o seu ciclo, faz um casulo de seda, no qual dentro faz a pupa.
O imago normalmente demora alguns dias a eclodir, mostrando esta beleza.
