the itchy thing arround, and show how they are, the pupa is envolved with
their skin so it is also dangerous. after this, I've put them underground again
Depois de se formarem as pupas debaixo da terra, eu tive que abrir as mesmas que
são envolvidas pelas peles das lagartas, que também causam irritações, por isso
tive que ter cuidado. Depois da foto voltei a enterrar-las.

The Pine Processionary  aka Thaumetopoea pityocampa is an interesting moth. I admit that I've never thought the moth would be cute, even tho it is not SOOOOO pretty, but quite interesting. I caught the caterpillars, which leave the nests and go to the ground in line, like a procession (that's the reason of its common name), and when they find good land they got underground. I didn't know it before, so I caught them and I've put them in a box, and waited till them pupate... although they kept walking and walking in line (they are always in line) and never made the pupa. I searched and it was said they needed land, so I've put land and they in 3 seconds were already making holes in the ground ready to make the cocoon. The Caterpillar is very dangerous, in the meaning of itch, it can cause skin irritations and in some extreme cases they can make you go to the Hospital so be careful whenever you see this caterpillar.

A Processionária dos minheiros (Thaumetopoea pityocampa) é uma borboleta nocturna muito interessante. Eu admito que nunca pensei que fossem bonitas, apesar de não serem lindas, eu acho-as bastante interessantes. Eu apanhei as lagartas na estrada (onde muitas vezes são mortas pelos carros), quando elas deixam o ninho dos pinheiros, e procuram, em fila, como uma procissão (daí o nome), terra boa e firme para se enterrarem e fazerem a pupa. Contudo desconhecia que estas mesmas, precisavam de terra para fazerem a crisálida, por isso quando as apanhei e as coloquei na caixa, eu esperei que elas fizessem a pupa, mas nunca paravam, andavam sempre em linha. Então eu procurei na net, e vi que elas precisavam de terra, então coloquei terra e em 3 segundos já estavam a se enterrar para fazerem os casulos. As lagartas são muito perigosas, no sentido de alergias, pode causar irritações cutâneas e em casos extremos pode levar-te para o hospital, por isso tem cuidado quando vires estas lagartas.
